New York City is pretty big, with many people, but many celebrities are also in town. You never know if you might just run across one on the street. And who doesn't want to see Celebrities in New York City?
Well, the odds aren’t that high. I’d like to share three other ways to enjoy “The East Coast Tinseltown” in New York for free.
Celebrity Locations
New York is home to several television shows. An Internet search can easily reveal the locations used to short-shoot popular series, such as the recent Marvellous, Mrs. Maisel, and Only Murders In The Building. Who can forget Seinfeld?
For more iconic films, my favourites are Dustin Hoffman in Tootsies at the Russian Tea Room, Tom Hanks in Big at Schwarz 5th Avenue and Audrey Hepburn in the film Breakfast at Tiffany's.
An excellent book was created in 2019 with movie locations and matching photos.
This book is a film lover's guide to New York City. It explores the city through iconic moments in cinema history. It is filled with interesting trivia and valuable information for locals and tourists. It includes now-and-then images, quotes, location information for 180 famous films and TV shows, and a complete index listing location information for New York movies. |

How to See Celebrities in New York City in Person
If you want to see celebrities in New York City, I suggest going to a live show or taping here. To request tickets, go to https://1iota.com/ and register.
You will not get approved for Priority, and General admission does not guarantee you will get in. It seems to be sometimes quite random. However, you stand a better chance if you’re not fussy about who you see, so I would request as many different venues as possible.
If you’re interested in Saturday Night Live, forget it. That’s pretty impossible. In August, submit a request via e-mail to snltickets@nbcuni.com, including your contact information. You'll then be included in the ticket lottery for the upcoming season. You don't get to choose which date you'll attend, so do not request a specific date.
Nighttime shows, such as Stephen Colbert, are also challenging to get tickets to, although I have been successful. With his show, you never know who you’re going to see. They are usually taped in the late afternoon for that evening.
Some daytime shows taped here in New York are The View, Drew Barrymore, The Today Show and Tamron Hall.
You should also check if “Inside the Actor's Studio” is taping any shows.
Check out what is showing currently by going here.
How to Meet Celebrities in New York City
If you want to meet a celebrity and perhaps take a picture with them, you must hang around the stage door after a performance. It is pretty easy to find the stage door, but a few are trickier. Check out this site to verify the location.
TIP: stand to the left of the door as the actors usually work their way anti-clockwise.
While your favourite actor may not come out, there’s a good chance you will get an autograph from one of the actors in the play. I’ve succeeded, although some actors like Nathan Lane will not give autographs. Others are just really nice and generous with their time for their fans.
I only go to the stage door after matinees, and yes, I have paid for tickets, but you could still go if you haven’t paid. I was told that the odds are a little less likely that they will show up because they’ll have another evening performance.
5 Best Ways to Get Broadway Tickets
I have seen a few celebrities in New York City.
Again, I remind you there are no guarantees for celebrities in New York, but there are many opportunities if you’re just willing to take a chance and a little time.
