Surf’s up! Or should I say surfs down? Finally, the perfect day for snorkelling.
No pictures of me snorkelling as I was too busy doing it all morning. I must confess it was not quite as good as the Cook Islands, but other than Niue, what is?
Snorkelling in Maui
I am certainly not complaining as we saw a large variety of fish, including some that are not found only in Hawaiian waters, such as potters angelfish, saddle rice, Hawaiian hogfish, white spotted Toby, bullet head parrot fish, surgeonfish, blue stripe butterfly fish, millet head butterfly fish, and brown surgeon fish. There were probably a few others I missed and others I have seen elsewhere.
Just after I got out, we did see a Honu Hawaiian green sea turtle in the water. We hope to see more up close and personal when we get to Honolulu.
Took a side road into the valley, where there’s getting wonderful vegetation and cooler weather.
Later in the day, we went to a bird reserve sanctuary. We then took a pleasant long boardwalk stroll along the coast through another protected area to see some other waterfalls.
Snorkelling and Birds are two “mini themes” I have for this trip. Are themed vacations a good idea? Check out this blog post.
