Unbelievable lobster and herrings
We just returned from a few days in Les Iles de la Madeleine. It was much shorter than expected, but that’s another story you can find here: Good Grief Deer Lake Newfoundland But at least we got our full of lobster! The weather was reasonable, considering we are revisiting at the end of approximately a four-month season. Les Iles de la Madeleine is extremely popular amongst French Canadians. It is much less known elsewhere. The islands are between three Canadian provinces, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. However, it “belongs” to Quebec. The…

Minimizing the Risk of Illness
Bagels New York City or Montreal
There is a very simple answer to the question of which is better, New York City or Montreal bagels. Neither because, for me, it is like comparing apples and oranges. That said, nothing compares to real Montreal bagels from St. Viateur Street. NYC and Montreal bagels have devoted followings, and preferences may vary depending on personal taste and regional affinity. Ultimately, it’s a matter of individual preference for which bagel style is more appealing. Bagels from New York City (NYC) and Montreal are distinct and have notable differences in preparation and characteristics. Here’s a breakdown of how they are made…
Day 31 – Beaches, Shaved Ice and Mais Tais
I wouldn’t say I like the heat here, and it’s not even hot compared to what it can be in the summer. I have fallen in love with shaved ice; They’re way better than mai tais and perfect in this heat. They’re very popular here, and they are pretty good. It reminds me of the first time I ever experienced a snowcone at Expo 67 in Montréal. Today our goal was to walk along the beaches. We picked up a couple of chairs and an umbrella and sat on the beach. We did a little dip in the water, but…
Day 23 – The Great Sausalito
The Pretty Town of Sausalito Today we took the ferry across to Sausalito. It is rather quaint and another place for the tourist to visit. We took a bus from the central town to see the floating homes. This is something like the batches in New Zealand, except it’s far more extensive, and they called them arks. They cost quite a bit of money as well. This is more like a floating marina with rather expensive rebuilt homes. We stopped to see the ceiling and statue at the other end of town before catching the ferry back to San Francisco….
Day 13 – Greetings From Las Vegas
We walked from our motel to the corner of the strip and Tropicana, Las Vegas, while it was only 28 degrees Celsius. This is where there are more hotel rooms than anywhere else in the world, with those from Excalibur, New York, New York, MGM and Tropicana. We walked north on the strip, popping into every casino to avoid the heat. We stopped at Eataly for breakfast. We visited Eataly a couple of times earlier in the year in New York City and enjoyed our experience. Our stroll continued to the Paris Casino, Venetian and Mirage. This is where the…
The Best Mouth Watering Nova Scotia Lobster Rolls
Here goes for those waiting with bated breath to find the criteria for the best lobster rolls in Nova Scotia, Canada. Please note that the prices are just post Covid, and I am sure have increased since then. First, it’s the lobster itself. Are tiny pieces mashed up or big hunks of solid lobster meat and claws? Is the meat chewy or melts in your mouth? How was the lobster put together? It is the right amount of sauce, so it’s not to go soggy but not too dry and falling apart. Is the sauce tasty enough? To make sure,…
