We left for our South American trip two days ago, and I have barely looked at Cartagena excursions and sightseeing. While I spent hours and hours arranging it and booking activities, I really haven’t had the chance to study the areas that we’re going to first. So, I thought I’d do a little bit of research on our first two stops.
We were a little worried about the safety of travelling in Colombia, so we spent most of our time in Carteina.
We began our trip in Cartagena, Colombia, arriving at 8:30 a.m. after leaving Montreal at 9:30 the evening before. We got into the hotel and took the day “off” to recover.
I’m looking forward to two Cartagena excursions: bird watching later today, which I have booked, and snorkelling tomorrow. Our hotel is near the airport and a short walk to one of the quieter beaches. We have four good days there, so I imagine we’ll visit the old city.
I did check out the best way to get around the city.
In my research, here’s what I’ve discovered about the various options available to ensure that your time in Cartagena is filled with enriching experiences.
Cartagena Excursions and Sightseeing
-
Cultural Sightseeing:
Cartagena boasts a rich cultural heritage that is a treat to explore. From ancient temples and historical landmarks to captivating museums and art galleries, there is something to pique every traveller’s interest. We might take a free walking tour that provides insightful commentary, ensuring an immersive experience.
-
Cartagena Excursions and Nature Adventures:
Another option is embarking on scenic hikes or nature trails. Imagine breathing in the fresh mountain air as you traverse lush forests, picturesque valleys, and serene lakes. Birdwatching is done by canoe, so it should be quite an adventure.
-
Wellness and Relaxation:
Categina is renowned for its rejuvenating wellness retreats and spa resorts amidst idyllic settings. I don’t think we will indulge in soothing massages, thermal baths, and holistic treatments designed to recharge the mind, body, and spirit. These wellness centres frequently cater to senior travellers, offering age-appropriate therapies and gentle activities such as yoga or tai chi, but I can’t imagine they are very affordable. I could be wrong.
-
Culinary Delights:
No trip would be complete without savouring the local cuisine. Categina’s gastronomic scene promises an array of delectable flavours and dishes. We want to sample traditional delicacies, visit local markets, or even participate in cooking classes where you can learn the secrets of Categinian cuisine firsthand. I am looking at doing something like this in Santiago.
-
Cultural Events and Festivals:
These celebrations offer a glimpse into the country’s cultural heritage, from traditional music and dance performances to colourful parades and street fairs. When we arrive, we will check local event calendars to plan your visit around these festivities.
Our challenge will be to pace ourselves throughout our trip.
We are good at taking breaks when needed, hydrating frequently, and listening to our bodies. One of Caterina’s charms lies in its ability to captivate travellers at their own pace, allowing for moments of reflection, relaxation, and sheer wonder.
