This post is my bitch’n block post. Well, I can honestly say that I have appreciated and learned from every trip. As I wrote elsewhere, it’s almost impossible to pick my top 10 because everything has been quite impressive. It’s easier to the least enjoyed places, but that’s for another blog post. There have been a few places that have not or, let’s say, could’ve been better. It didn’t take me long to realize that the weather, particularly cold, significantly impacted my experience. I get that some people love the cozy vibes of winter travel, but it’s all discomfort and…

Halloween Nightmare: Put a warning on this!
This post contains information that may be too much for sensitive readers. It was Halloween 2022, and we were in Honolulu, so I thought I’d celebrate our day in Waikiki with this particular ice cream. Day 34; Happy Halloween In Honolulu I’m comfortable discussing bodily functions, but Louise is appalled by that. So, I will try to be as discreet as I can. So, there I am, on the plane to New Zealand, minding my own business, when I glance down and—BAM!—my poop is black. Not dark brown, not “maybe that’s just the lighting” dark, but full-on, no-holds-barred…
Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé National Park
I’ll never forget a cartoon that I saw probably 50 years ago. Two individuals were looking at this apocalyptic sunset, and the caption read, “You’ve seen one sunset; you’ve seen them all.” I talked with a woman a while ago about our travels and the significant places we had visited. She commented that she was disappointed in Ulhura and that it was just a red rock. So, with that in mind, and tongue in cheek, I thought I would write about our visit to Bonaventure Ireland with that same attitude. The Bonaventure Island off of Percé epitomizes three things. I…
Honey, I’ve Shrunk
I’m not talking about how I’ve shrunk from losing weight. I’m incredibly grateful to have taken the Ozempic without any side effects. Over the past year and a half, I have dropped nearly one-quarter of my body weight, or about 55 pounds. So, let me get back to how I’ve shrunk. I went from 5‘6“ to 5‘4“sometime in the last 15 years. I did some research online, and it appears that one is at one’s tallest around 40 years of age, and after that, particularly between the ages of 60 and 80, it’s not uncommon to lose 2 inches. Although…
Shewees Review – Challenges of Using Public Washrooms
Without trying to be gender insensitive, this post is not for anyone who has dangling parts. I’ve written about avoiding public washrooms before, but sometimes it’s impossible. I’m in my 70s, and my mother taught me how to hover over a public toilet. I wonder if little girls are taught the same thing by their mothers today. As you age, hovering takes on new challenges. You’re likely not to have the strength in your thighs, and your knees are about to give out. You’re left trying to grab the toilet paper dispenser or put your hands against the wall to…
Global Adventures in Toilet Paper
I know. I know. Here is another post about toilet paper. This time, my experiences in Global Adventures in Toilet Paper and now South America. The Variety of Toilets and Toilet Paper Essentials: Beware of Toilet Paper and Travelling Global Adventures in Toilet Paper From the plush clouds of quilted luxury to the humble single-ply sheets, toilet paper varies widely around the globe, each roll spinning tales of cultural quirks and practical challenges. United States: In the land of the free and the home of the Charmin, toilet paper reigns supreme. Americans take their TP seriously, with options ranging from…
Best Travel Socks
Believe it or not, I have written about the best travel socks. Sometimes, stocks are even more important than shoes when travelling. If you’ve read anything about me, you know that there’s only one shoe I will wear: AllBirds. Best Accessory Apparel for Travelling – Head to Toe I’m not quite as strict with my socks, but I’m close. I’m willing to wear socks that aren’t my favourite brands, but that is not the case now when I travel. In the post above, I told you that darn tough are my favourite socks, and my second choice is Ice Breakers….
Is It Likely I will get ill travelling?
“How likely is it that I will get ill travelling?” The simple answer is yes, you will get ill travelling. It doesn’t matter where I go or how pristine the water may be; it will upset my system after a few days. It isn’t anything serious, and I am used to it now, but it always happens. Water in various places has different minerals; even boiling it will not affect that. Are you planning an exciting adventure to a far-flung destination? Or perhaps you’re about to embark on a relaxing beach getaway? No matter the travel plans, one question often…
The Variety of Toilets and Toilet Paper
Toilet Paper on the Run Outside your hotel, I strongly advise taking wipes, tissues, or even your own toilet paper roll that you can use in a public washroom. Generally speaking, these are to be avoided, but that’s not always possible. Some countries have a person outside the washroom, keeping an eye out and handing out toilet paper, as we found in Bangkok. And while in Thailand, tipping isn’t necessary, although a couple of coins is a nice gesture. In other countries, a tip is required if there is a washroom attendant, and it is well worth the money. Paying…
What is worse? Dog Poo in Paris or New York
Let me say that any discussion about dog poo in this post is not a criticism of the poor animal but rather the owners. I would also like to add that I love Paris, where I lived for six years, and New York, where I have been several times and will now stay in Manhattan for a few months. Here’s my analysis of why New York dog poop is worse than in Paris. In Paris, about 90% of dogs are tiny little things. In New York, maybe 60% or small, 30% are mid-size, and 10% are large. That means a…
