There are many NYC Tours, but most don't get your money's worth. Here are some of the best of the best.
That might surprise you to learn from this discussion that I’m not crazy about tours; in general, I find them overly crowded, and I hate standing around through the various lecture, which can sometimes last a long time. However, the ones that I will suggest here are the exception to the rule.
Speaking of walking tours, you can download the Bloomfield app, which will provide you with some audio tours for free and some others. I don’t have a very affordable price if you like to go alone.
NYC Tours – Tenement Museum
If you’ve been following my blog, you know I am a Tenement Museum fan. I think I’ve done all of the walking tours And indoor tours. Each one is fascinating and its own right. I recommend reading the description to determine which one you find the most enjoyable.
Ticket prices are $30 per person. However, an annual membership if over 65 is a great deal. Even though we are both over 65, the regular price duo membership for $125 was the best value.
NYC Tours – Free Walking Tours
The free walking tours of New York. I couldn’t recommend free walking tours of New York more I’ve been on a few of them, and they’re excellent. It only costs you three dollars to reserve a spot which is a good idea, particularly if you’re going on the weekend, not just showing up. Then it’s up to you to decide how much you would like to tip the tour guide. As a senior, I recommend giving $15 per person based on your experience. Each tour last about two hours.
Before heading, you can purchase an audio guide or visit a video for many of these tours. If you’re not a great lover of tours, you might want to do this on your own. There are three tours, however, that I would recommend as they would not be as fulfilling without a guide. The first is the Art Deco subway system tour, which I have written about here.

The other two are the food tours; not only do they provide insights into the area, but you get advice on the best items to try and which establishments to visit. I encourage you to go on an empty stomach.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Carnegie Hall tour. It was two hours, and I only paid $16 as a senior. It was well worth the time and money.
